چکیده

The main objective of this paper was to investigate the effects of a computer screen interface design and its related geometrical characteristics of 36 graphical objects on a user’s task efficiency. A total of 490 subjects took part in laboratory experiments that focused on the direct manipulation of a visual dialogue between a user and a computer. The subjects were asked to select an object from among a group of items randomly placed on the computer screen that were visible exclusively during the visual search process. A model expressing the mean object acquisition time as a function of graphical object size and the configuration was developed and statistically validated. The model showed an influence of geometrical design characteristics of the graphical objects (icons) and their groupings (icon structures) on the observed task efficiency. The reported results can be used at those stages of a software lifecycle that concentrate on prototyping, designing, and implementing graphical solutions for the efficient graphical user–computer interface. r 2006 Elsevier B.V. Applying Cognitive Science Research in Graphical User Interface (gui)

In this paper, we will discuss the usage of cognitive science research in graphical user interface. In the area of interface design, there is a lack of guidelines based on actual cognitive science research. We intend to explore this area by focusing on the forestry industry and forestry operators, in particular, and how their visual cognitive work load affects their learning process, attention ...

Multimodal Binding of Parameters for Task-based Robot Programming Based on Semantic Descriptions of Modalities and Parameter Types

In this paper, we describe our ongoing efforts to design a cognition-enabled industrial robotic workcell, which significantly increases the efficiency of teaching and adapting robot tasks. We have designed a formalism to match task parameter and input modality types, in order to infer suitable means for binding values to those parameters. All modalities are integrated through a graphical user i...

Study of Design Method for Tangible User Interface

The third industrial revolution facilitated the rapid development of Tangible User Interface (TUI) in Internet of Things (IOT). The concept of TUI broke through the limitation of traditional Graphical User Interface (GUI). By giving objects digital information, the objects in our daily life can be transformed to the tangible interfaces between human and the digital world. Fully using daily life...

Improved Usability of Aviation Automation Through Direct Manipulation and Graphical User Interface Design

Problems in advanced commercial aircraft pilot–flight management system (FMS) interaction through multifunction control display units (MCDUs) have been widely reported. Because this interaction plays an important role in ensuring aircraft safety, the MCDU should be designed to provide intuitive interfaces for ease of learning and use and to support pilot task performance in every aspect possibl...
